The principal instruments used [by the Jelle-men] are the kora, in sound and shape resembling a guitar; the ballafoo [balafon] . . .; different-sized drums; and a flute with three notes, which is only used as an accompaniment to other instruments . . . (p. 369). The author travelled in Sierra Leone in the early 1820s.
