Negro Dance on a Cuban Plantation

This image shows a group of men and women dancing to drums and other musical instruments under a veranda in Cuba. The author of the article is unknown and frequently refers to "a late traveler in Cuba," which suggests this image was an imagined representation. Harper's Weekly: A Journal of Civilization was an American political magazine based in New York City and published by Harper & Brothers from 1857 until 1916. It featured foreign and domestic news, fiction, essays on many subjects and humor, alongside illustrations.
