Negroes Impelling a Canoe with the Vara & Scenery at Ponta Decho

This image shows two black men poling a canoe, while a white family and its black nursemaid enjoy the scenery along a river in Pernambuco, Brazil. James Henderson (c. 1783-1848) was a British traveler who traveled all through Brazil between 1819 and 1820. He made all of his sketches from his observations.
