Flower Seller, Brazil, 1816-1831
Captioned Marchand de Fleurs, a la Porte d'Une Eglise (flower seller at the entrance to a church), shows a man with a tray of flowers in one hand and what appears to be a tray of bananas in the other; a European woman is taking a flower and behind her are black women, presumably her servants. The engravings in this book were taken from drawings made by Debret during his residence in Brazil from 1816 to 1831.
