Fugitive Slaves, U.S. South, 1861
Shows a secret meeting of escaped slaves in the woods and swamps. One of three illustrations depicting fugitive slaves which accompanies an account (p. 486) of developments in the American Civil War. It is unlikely that the artist actually witnessed this scene.
