Convoi de café s'acheminant vers la ville
"Convoy of coffee heading toward the city" (caption translation). This image shows a group of men carrying bags of coffee to a town market. The man in the lead was carrying a coffee branch and what appears to be a thumb piano in his right hand. Such gangs often had a leader or boss and sang as they worked. The date of this watercolor is given on the image. Debret lived in Brazil from 1816 to 1831.
