Slaves being sold, white onlookers and purchasers. Sketch drawn by "our special artist," Mr. Davis who witnessed the scene shown in this drawing. Accompanying Davis was W. H. Russell, a correspondant for the London Times who gives a detailed description of the slave auctions he viewed while traveling through the South. The location is not identified in the article, but it was sent from Montgomery, Alabama (see vol. 5, p. 447)
