Joseph Dupuis, Journal of a Residence in Ashantee (London, 1824), facing p. 193.

The soldier, clad in beads, is shown holding a rifle and a horn; the latter is known in Jamaica as an "abeng" and found among the maroons of that island. Dupuis was the British government envoy to Ashanti.
