William Dampier, A new voyage round the world (London, 1697; 2nd edition; also 1st ed, 1697), foldout between pp. 24 and 25 (Copy in the John Carter Brown Library at Brown University)

"A Map of the Middle Part of America," shows Mexico, Central America, northern South America, the Caribbean islands, and the North American coastal mainland up to Maryland; many land locations and islands are identified. This map was probably made by Herman Moll, an active mapmaker in the circle of 17th century English adventurers and writers that supported an expanding English Empire. The map probably derived from another one that Moll did or to which he had access. (Thanks to Susan Danforth, The John Carter Library, for her help.)
